MOD 5 Design Development (Phase 2 to Final)
In phase 2 of our design:
Aim was to fit the unit up in a truck, therefore the dimension of our unit is basically base on a truck size dimension, pretty restricted but we were able to get out with a good solution.
The truck is able to catter up to 8 units, a typical classroom takes up to about 7 units..
therefore about 2-3 trucks is require to transport our proposed scheme classroom shown below.
Once everything was finallize, we built a site model reflecting on how the classroom are meant to orientate on the sight. We decided all glazings should be shaded by timber battens louvers. The scheme consist of an internal courtyard for children to play and social with each other during break time. It is also a good outdoor learning place for the teacher to utilize.
Diagram of winter and summer sun is shown on the system we design... More other systems were introduced such as hydraulic floor heating, solar power, rainwater catchment and etc. . All these systems are available on the following weblink: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O61Z4rO-ec. It is our final product compiled into a video.
and finally....the assembled classrooms....

MOD 5 Design Development (Phase 1)
The concept of out Mod 5 is basically based on the RARE concept. Our dimension of classroom is basically based on a typical MOD 5 classroom dimension. However, the building envelope is very different.
This sketch shows an overall view of a completed classroom assembled by 5 units. Also some thoughts of how each unit gets connected to the other....
This sketch shows a close up and detail sketch of a unit, and the envelope within the structure.
Design Features:
1. Battens are design at north glazings to block summer sun and allowing wintersun to penetrate.
2. Some thoughts of idea how the footing may work with barrel concrete....
3. Some thoughts on how each unit is connected with each other
4. Also how rain water needs to be collected and stored underneath the building
Aim of Project (Phase 1)
1.) Our first intention was to design the way how the classroom is assembled.
2.) We decided to design something based on modular architecture
3.) Each segment of the classroom is assembled by each unit
4.) Depending on how large the class room is demand
The images below shows the initial concept sketches.....
This sketch shows how each unit is being assembled...very flexible plan, each unit is able to connect with one another, some thoughts of the unit's shape is slowly been develope. Playing around with the classroom dimensions, but pretty much is based on a typical MOD 5 classroom dimension.

This is an overall view of our design scheme. The exterior of the classroom is cladded in timber... Providing a soft and comfortable look. MOD 5's are more like a steel box, not a very inviting building to accomodate students.
