MOD5 Research

Some of the website's MOD5 are quite different, this one for example is very commercial and looks like a typical warehouse, although it can be put up very fast and simple, architecturally, it looks very hideaous to me.

Portable House

Swell House

This site offer a great deal of architectural portable and swell house that are quite inspiring in Aesthetic point of view.

This site offer a some information about prefab homes and school that may come in handful for the upcoming projects.

Week One: Esquisse 1, a RARE Concept

RARE means: Renewable, Adaptive, Relocatable, Environmental

Week 1, formed a group of 3 people, Dang Dang Zhou, Micheal Visentin, and me (GROUP 20). Following links are to group members:

First of all, we sat together and discussed on what we came into our first thought when it comes to a RARE Concept.

We all agreed that it a RARE Concept has to be as the following:

- Less material to provide the most of the space
- Flexible and adapt to any environment

So we began to draw out our initial thoughts about a RARE concept space, we came up with a serie of different geometric drawings and decided take it on further on these drawing idea.

THE IDEA:
Our concept about RARE was that it should be:
FLEXIBLE, we had our space designed in a foldable and stacking way, to allow maximum space when needed. This prototype is also made to be bend on the to desirable shape.
From transport to site, it only require to be unfold to and slot into a ground plate, if necessary, it may be supported by stumps or piles to anchor it down. The sides of the track must be adjustable in order to allow bending flexibility.

MATERIALS
We discussed about materials as it should be weather prove, it can be constructed by using fabric or hinged panels. It should be designed in light weight so it is easy to be carry in and out with a truck easily.

The bottom show the step of how it is assemble in a simple way, all comes back to fold and unfolding it.

Reflections on outcome:
- flexibility of a material, not necessarily soft materials, as long as it is been designed in a flexible way to assemble or to what ever situation, it should be reliable and adaptive in the meantime

- time utilization, what did we get out of in a short amount of time, well in this short period of time it forced and pressured us to think hard and work hard to get into this outcome

- why sustainable design? Nowadays its all about sustainability and global warming issues, and our surrounding change swiftly and a lot of problems are not fixed before, therefore we as an architect should think of a new architectural resolution to accommodate new demand
